A comparative studyon clinical outcomeforpatients with esophageal cancer underwent three-incisionsesophagectomyandVATs

[Abstract] Objective: To compare the clinical effects between combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophage-ctomy ( TLE) with three incisions esophagectomy( TE) for esophageal cancer patients. Methods : From January 2008 to January 2012,165 patients with esophageal cancer were divided into TLE group( n =71) and TE group( n = 94), The operation time,volume of blood lose,post operative quality of life and survival time were analyzed. Results: The operation time (189 ±48) min,blood loss (89. 3 ±41, 1) ml,pulmonary infection (6/71) and re = admission into ICU(4/71) in TLE group were significantly lower than those correspondent merits (251 ± 50) min, (230 ± 85. 3) ml,(14/94) and (9/94) in TE group (P <0. 05). However there were no significant differences in the number of lymph nodes dissection and survival time between the TLE and OE groups (21.5 ±5.6 vs 20. 1 ±6.8) (P >0. 05). Con-clusion: Operative trauma and postoperative complications of VATS were significantly less than three incisions opera-tion for patients with esophageal cancer.
