Abstract The results of hydrogeochemical researches show that natural waters of Kashin-Beck disease areas in Transbaikalia are remarkable for high concentration of phosphorus (up to 3.5 mg/L), manganese, silicon, lead as well as some additional geochemical features. Based on hydrogeochemical data, the disease may have relations to multi-factors with biogeochemical nature. The fiurther study on genesis of KBD needs more new reliable data about environment geochemistry

Kaschin-Beck disease (KBD) is a kind of sickness of osseous-articular system of humans and animals which shows itself in the most severe forms by shortened extremities, deformations of joints and total skeleton. In the middle 19th century, the disease was discovered and described for the first time in the Urov River Basin (one of the left-side tributaries of the Argun River), southeastern Transbaikalia (Fig.1), and
therefore it is also known as Urov endemic disease. In addition to Russia, the disease can also be found in ChinaandKoreanpeninsula

The cause of the disease remained unclear for a
long time and is actually not well known until now.

Although there were many assumptions for the genesis of KBD during the period from the 1940s to the middle 1980s in Russia, one of the most popular explanations was the biogeochemical hypothesis given
