国际材料研究联合会张邦衡秘书长
各位同仁：
我非常高兴及荣幸能有机会祝贺“Materials China”的发行。这份高端期刊是由中国材料研究学会发起创办的。它集中报道中国的材料研究、教育和技术。同时也报道国际上材料领域的最新进展。这份独一无二的杂志不仅面向此领域的研究者，还面向政策的制定者和企业家。国际材联的全球会员也将会从中受益。
国际材料研究联合会成立于1991年，它的宗旨是通过它的附属机构为全球的材料研究领域服务。这些年来，国际材联与地区性的研究学者和教育家一起建立了材料研究学会类型的各种协会并且推动它们成为国际材联会员。最近的例子包括材料研究非洲学会和中东学会的建立。国际材联的成功依赖于它的成员组织的持续兴趣和巨大贡献。“Materials China”的发行为此贡献了新的力量。
中国材料研究学会是国际材联的发起成员之一。在过去的二十年中，它一直为国际材联输送领导人才。中国材料研究学会主办了大量国际材联的活动，它的成员也一直为国际材联提供各种服务。李恒德教授和周廉教授都曾担任过国际材联的主席。在他们的领导下，创立了国际材联亚洲会议：为解决全球能源和环境面临的挑战，最近又创办了国际材联高峰会议。归功于以上和其他杰出贡献，国际材联在2005年当选为国际科学委员会的成员。
国际材联感谢中国材料研究学会为材料研究领域作出的最新贡献。我代表国际材料研究联合会，向周廉教授、师昌绪教授和李恒德教授表示祝贺，并感谢他们在创办“MaterialsChina”时表现的领导能力和远见卓识。我们期待大家的踊跃投稿，并预祝

Dear Colleagues:
It gives me great pleasure and honor to congratulate C-MRS for its launching of a new high caliber Jourmal, Materials China Although the Jourmal will focus on materials research, education, and technology in China, it will also report on the latest advances from around the world. This unique publication will reach not only researchers in the field, but policy makers and entrepreneurs as well. It has also been designed to benefit the global membership of the International Union of Materials ResearchSocieties (IUMRS).
IUMRS was established 1991 to serve the global materials community through the leadership of its adhering bodies, Over the years, the Union has worked with regional materials researchers and educators to establish MRS-type societies and tofostertheirprogressto membershipintheIUMRS.Recent examples include the African Materials Research Society(Africa-MRS) and a newly established Regional Society of Materials Research and Education in the Mideast. The success of the IUMRS depends on the sustained interest and tangible contributions of its member organizations. With the launch of Materials China, C-MRS sets yet another excellent example of such contributions!
C-MRS was a founding member of the IUMRS and over the past two decades, has provided strong leadership to the IUMRS community.It has hosted numerous IUMRS events and its members have served IUMRS in various capacities. Professors Li Hengde and Zhou Lian have both served as presidents of the Union and under their leadership, the IUMRS Intemational Conference in Asia (IUMRS-ICA)was established.More recently the IUMRS Materials Summits were launched to address global energy and environmental challenges, These and other valuable contributions helped the IUMRS be elected to full membership in the International Council for Science (ICSU) in2005.
The IUMRS welcomes this latest contribution from C-MRS to the materials world community and we look forward to contributing articles to the Journal. On behalf of the IUMRS, 1 congratulate Professors Zhou Lian, Shi Changxu, and Li Hengde for their leadership and vision in launching Materials
