Design of Strengthening Masonry.Structures
Code for Design of Strengthening Masonry Structures has been approved as a national standardwitha serial numberof GB50702-2011 and shallbeimplementedfromAugust1,2012. Thereinto,Articles3.1.9,4.2.3,4.3.6,4.4.3,4.5.2,4.5.3,4.5.5,4.6.1,4.6.2,4.6.3, 4.7.5,4.7.7,9.1.7and10.1.4arecompulsoryprovisionsandmustbeenforced strictly.

This Codewas formulated bySichuanInstituteof BuildingResearchjointlywith the organizations concerned according to the requirements of Development and Revision Plan of EngineeringConstructionStandards in1989issuedbytheformerMinistryof Construction.
During the process of formulating this Code,the drafting group conducts monographic study on various structurestrengthening methods,carried out extensive investigations and analysis and proving tests on key projects, summarized design experience in the strengthening of masonry structures in the past two decades and carried out comparative analysis of and referred to the foreign advanced standards and codes,based on which,it extensivelyasked for opinions of the organizations concerned and social public in various ways,conducted trial design and evaluation on the strengthening effects,thereafter modifiedmainprovisions repeatedly,and finalizedthis Code throughreview.
ThisCodecomprises 13chaptersand 2appendixes andthemain technical contents cover general provisions,terms and symbols,basicrequirements,materials,reinforced concretelayer strengthening,steel reinforcementmeshmortarlayer strengthening,sectional steel strengthening, external prestressedstrut strengthening,bondedfiberreinforcedpolymer strengthening,wirerope mesh-polymer modified cement mortar layer strengthening,strengthening with adding masonry counterfort column,construction strengthening of masonrystructures and masonry crack repairing.
Theprovisions printed in bold typein thisCodearecompulsory ones andmust beenforced strictly.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is in charge of the administration of thisCodeand the explanation of the compulsory provisions;and Sichuan Institute of Building Researchis responsiblefortheexplanationof specifictechnical contents.All relevant organizations arekindly requested to sum up your experiences and accumulated data and information in actual practicesduring theprocess of implementingthis Code so asto enrichandimprovethequalityof this Code.
